An Incomplete Revenge by Jacqueline Winspear

4 out of 5

The Maisie Dobbs series is set in England and Canada right after World War I. This book explores the post-war racialist undertone to the country’s increasing tension as the majority of the population lives in poverty. The mystery, involving clues from the village fires and social tensions, kept me guessing throughout. I enjoy this series for its strong focus on psychological mysteries and detailed historical settings.

Vita’s Other World: Gardening Biography of Vita Sackville-West by Jane Brown

4 out of 5

This picture book on the gardening life of Vita Sackville-West gave a great deal of insight into the gardener’s, the poet’s, and the author’s life. I enjoyed looking at the beautiful, detailed pictures of the gardens, which vividly depict her gardening style. Learning more about the influence gardening had on this poet’s writing makes it especially appealing for visual and gardening enthusiasts. Suppose you love gardening and learning more about how the natural world inspired poetry. This is a great choice.
