My Top Three Favorite TV Shows of September

I have been consistently watching these three TV shows over the last few months and wanted to share them with you.

Fraiser

American classic sitcom set in Seattle, WA, Fraiser. This show is lighthearted and non-offensive, and the content is charming to watch.

I like this show because it is easy to watch and is always funny.  I sometimes do not like how “snobbish” Fraiser is supposed to be with others, and the acting is unbelievable. However, the characters are so relatable that it’s easy to overlook these aspects. I also live in Seattle and can easily pick up on the fact that the show was not filmed in Seattle but in Los Angeles. So, if you are a Washingtonian like me, that element of the show is let down and unauthentic, but overall, this show is 4 out of 5 for a comedy sitcom.

The Mallorca Files

It is a suspense show with lots of action and dark mysteries to be found out. The show is set on the Spanish island of Mallorca, and the main characters are two oddballs in a small, tight-knit community. Miranda Blake, the British detective, is sent to Spain to investigate a mystery she cannot solve and is stuck in Mallorca with her fellow detective, Max Winter, who is German. The two main characters have to work through their issues and conflicts to help solve mysteries and find a sense of belonging in Mallorca, as both feel like outsiders in a foreign country. This show is engaging and thrilling, but it can also have dark elements that are disturbing to watch as a viewer. This show is 3.5 stars out of 5 because the darker elements and personal conflict outweigh the impressive storyline and engaging mysteries.

Queens of Mystery

This show uniquely blends mystery, comedy, dark elements, drama, magical realism, and British humor.  Maltida Stone returns to her hometown at 28 years old to solve the mystery of her mother disappearing 23 years ago, but she takes a job as the local detective and gets wrapped up in all the local troubles. Her aunts, who are local mystery writers, want to be involved in every case and help out, which causes a great deal of conflict between Matilda and her boss, who wants her to figure it out herself.  However, this show has elements of magical realism and surrealism that are not entirely explained in how they relate to the reality of daily life. Also, the humor can be off-beat at times and can go unnoticed by the watcher, and I would say a firm “British humor” in this show’s storyline.  The show does have some disturbing content related to Maltida Stone’s trauma from losing her mother at such a young age and the fact her aunts are hiding something from her.  Overall, I would give this show four out of five because of its engaging content, humor, unique storyline, and creativity with its surrealism and magical realism elements and the main characters.

I’m looking forward to hearing your thoughts on these shows. I hope they resonate with you as much as they have with me.
