Autumn Leaves

Autumn Leaves
The years have passed, and the season changed when we last met.
Memories pile up inside me, and words are almost forgotten.
What if we had met at a different place in time?
Would we ever cross paths again, or is our reunion reserved for another life?
Eyes so sincerely inquiring into what I speak in truth,
The summer heat has burnt its way through my soul,
And leaves ashes that blow away in the midnight winds.
Time has the most potent power to whip away you.
Three autumn seasons shall pass without your presence,
New growth will shave away the old hardwood.
Leaves pile high from our making and ending of a season of life.
Sweet infatuations faded with times cruel edge and bite.
Breakable promises never blow away on cold winds.
Your presence is no more here and will never be.
Time has taken away from us and blown out the flames.
