What I Read in February

This series features a strong female leading character as she navigates her personal and changing professional life. The stories take place in Botswana, Africa. The mysteries are full of silly humor and, oddities which breaks up the darker elements of murder and intrigues.

The story plays on the joke of as a traditional built woman. Precious Ramotswe is a kind and cheerful woman that sometimes takes too much interest in other’s lives. She is owner of the first ever women run detective agency in Botswana, and she claims it is the best one in the country.

She is not a reserved woman and is by no means a conventional woman figure. She likes her independence and bold ways of detecting what is wrong in the picture with the mysteries she solves.

The series is lighthearted and enjoyable reading for those who look for mysteries that are not dark and have sad endings.

The book does touch on the fact that she feels amount of prejudice toward herself as the only woman detective in the area. She does not fill full the traditional role of housewife and mother, rather she is her own woman.

She also, plays on the joke that she believes that her agency is the no.1 in Botswana for detection. The series has wit and energy that is not found in most mysteries series. I highly recommend if you like mystery novels with humor.
