What I read in November

The Name of the Rose, by Umberto Eco

This month, I read an exciting Italian novel by a medieval scholar and novelist. The Name of the Rose is a complex plot with interesting character development, deep and old symbolic language and symbols, intrigues, and puzzling mazes. The novel is unique in that it takes on modern themes of genres in thrillers, puzzling mazes, and intriguing elements of the book. However, the character development, complex plot, and old symbolic language and symbols are based on classical literature and suggestions of medieval Latin and the Roman Catholic Church.

The historical murder mystery set in an Italian monastery in 1327. The novel was translated from Italian to English in 1983. The Benedictine monastery is in northeItaly, and, the story begins with the theological disputation between Pope John XXII andFranciscanss about apostolic poverty. The abbey to be a quiet and safe place until the death of a member of the Abbey. Further, The death is tied up in the conflict with political matters of francisans and Pope John XXII. However, the plot thickens when Abo of Fossanova comes to investigate the death of the member of the abbey.
