I was unimpressed with The Forsyte Saga. Having read a lot of stuffy British Victorian literature, I am well-read in this period. However, this is my least favorite book; a common theme during this period is how society’s and individuals’ morals combine to create a disaster in the social landscape. Victorian society was highly hierarchical and morally judgmental of individuals, especially the upper middle class and wealthy, regarding moral behavior and etiquette. This book plays on this theme to tell the story of a greedy, heartless upper-middle-class man who destroys his life and his relationships with his wife and family. However, the book is extremely slow to read; the thick moral abstract of the character makes it painful to read. I will not be reading the rest of the saga.

The third book is my new favorite book series. The Marlow Murder Club series is easy and entertaining reading. This is what you call a cozy murder mystery series. My favorite genre of reading is mystery novels. The plot is a healthy structure with a twist at the end that takes you off guard. I recommend this series to all mystery book lovers.
